Integration

Integration is the process of gently working with your experience after psilocybin in a way that supports stability, understanding, and long-term wellbeing. Rather than focusing on interpretation, symbolism, or spiritual meaning, integration sessions are centered on helping you process what arose emotionally and psychologically, at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

In integration, we may reflect on thoughts, feelings, memories, bodily sensations, or shifts in perspective that emerged, and explore how they relate to your current life, relationships, and mental health goals. This can include identifying patterns, clarifying what feels meaningful or challenging, and noticing where additional support or care may be needed. Integration also emphasizes grounding, helping you return to daily routines, strengthen emotional regulation, and make sense of the experience in a way that feels coherent and supportive.

This work is trauma-informed, meaning we move slowly, collaboratively, and with respect for your nervous system and personal boundaries. Not all experiences feel clear, positive, or transformative right away, and some may bring up unexpected or difficult material. Integration does not require revisiting anything before you are ready, and there is no expectation to “make meaning” or reach a specific outcome. Your sense of safety, choice, and agency remains central throughout the process.

The goal of integration is not to hold onto the experience, but to translate what feels helpful into practical, sustainable changes that align with your values and capacity. This may include strengthening coping skills, increasing self-compassion, improving communication or boundaries, or identifying areas where additional support may be beneficial. Integration is a supportive, therapeutic process designed to promote continuity of care, emotional safety, and ongoing growth within a clinically informed, non-ceremonial framework.

What if my experience didn’t feel positive or meaningful?

That is completely okay. Not all experiences feel clear, emotional, or transformative. Integration is not about forcing meaning or outcomes, it is about supporting you wherever you are and helping you make sense of your experience at your own pace.

What if I don’t remember much of my experience?

This is common and not a problem. Integration does not rely on memory or detailed recall. We can focus on how you are feeling now, any subtle shifts you’ve noticed, or simply supporting grounding and stability.

How many integration sessions will I need?

Colorado’s Natural Medicine Act requires at least one integration session following a psilocybin experience. From a clinical perspective, two to three sessions are commonly recommended, as integration often unfolds over time rather than all at once. That said, there is no fixed limit or “right amount” of integration. Some people find brief support sufficient, while others benefit from ongoing integration or continued therapy as new insights, emotions, or life changes emerge. We will collaborate to determine what level of support feels appropriate for you, based on your needs, goals, and pace.

What if difficult memories or emotions came up?

Sometimes challenging material can arise. Integration is trauma-informed and paced carefully, with your consent. You are never required to revisit or discuss anything before you feel ready.

Do I need to talk about spiritual or symbolic meanings?

There is no right or wrong way to talk about your experience. You are not required to frame anything in spiritual, symbolic, or existential terms for integration to be helpful. Some people prefer to focus on practical insights, emotions, or how they are feeling in their daily lives, while others naturally notice symbolic or spiritual themes that feel personally meaningful. If those interpretations matter to you, there is space to explore them in a supportive, non-directive way. Integration is guided by your language, your beliefs, and your comfort level, without any expectation, pressure, or prescribed way of understanding what you experienced.

What if I feel emotionally sensitive afterward?

Increased sensitivity can happen. Integration includes support for grounding, self-care, and nervous system regulation to help you feel more stable and supported as you return to daily life.
